Suitable for locating open circuit (break) faults and short circuit faults especially for Telecom cables The Pulse Echo DTF Locator employs the pulse echo technique to detect open circuit and short circuit faults. A voltage pulse is transmitted along the line from the instrument and the reflected voltage pulse or 'echo' produced by the fault is detected as it returns. The time which elapses between the initial sending of the pulse and the reception of the 'echo' is interpreted as a measure of the distance along the line to the fault. An adjustable velocity of propagation thumbwheel switch is provided to set the VOP for the line under test. A cable length selection slide switch with three ranges - short cables (S) upto 1 km, medium (M) cable upto 2.5 Km and long cable (L) upto 5 Km is also provided. There is an on/off slide switch and the distance to fault is automatically displayed on the 4 1/2 digit red Led display when the operator presses the push button. Two LED indicators just below the digital display marked SC and OC indicate whether the fault is a short or open circuit respectively.Two terminals are provided on the front panel for connecting the line under test. Rechargeable batteries in a power pack provide the power. The power pack has an integral battery charger unit. The Pulse Echo Tester is housed in a robust metal case. Connecting leads are supplied. |
