This is a pocket-size, hand-held battery-operated instrument designed to provide a quick, safe, and simple way of checking the presence or absence of a voltage in an electrical line without the necessity of physical access to the conductor. This device will enable the detection of a break in any normal, non shielded, 'live' electric cable or wire. It is suitable for use with AC voltages from about 100 V to 250 KV. It is possible to approximately gauge the voltage level from the distance between the detector and the wire at which the indicator LED lights.
